Foreign ministers of Iran, Brazil and Turkey have signed an agreement for an exchange project of Iranian stocks of low-enriched uranium in exchange for nuclear fuel for the reactor in Tehran officially used for medical research. The signature took place on the sidelines of the G15 summit in the presence of Iranian and Brazilian Presidents Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip turkish Erdgogan.
Foreign Ministry spokesman IRA, Ramin Mehman pilasters, explained that “Iran agrees to make the territory turkish exchange of its stock of low-enriched uranium (less than 3.5%) in exchange for highly fuel enriched (20%) for the reactor in Tehran. It is an amount of up to 1,200 kilograms. For his part, Iran plans to shortly inform the International Atomic Energy Agency on the details of the agreement between the three countries. ”
This is a turning point of the demonstration of what the boycott called by the G 5 +1 against Iran is a sieve: Turkey is a NATO country, Brazil an emerging power certainly not an enemy of the West and the U.S., but says the right of Iran to develop nuclear industry because it wants to further develop their own, without too many strings and wires and without pretending not to bet even the atom bomb in Latin America.
Iran so far rejected the offer to transform its reserves of low-enriched uranium fuel in February and had begun production of uranium enriched to 20%, raising protests from major nuclear powers, which accuse Iran of wanting to give nuclear weapons.
According Mehman pilasters’ The exchange will be done on the territory of Turkey, confirming the early Sunday evening Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu turkish, who had announced an imminent agreement between Turkey, Brazil and Iran on the Iranian nuclear issue.
The Islamic Republic of Iran obtain such a double result: it gives a slap to the powerful Group of 5 +1 (U.S., China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany), agreeing with the Turkish and Islamic friends with outsiders luxury Lula left, getting from Turkey and Brazil (non-permanent members of UN Security Council) recognition of Iran’s right to enrich uranium. In return the international community can inspect nuclear facilities Italians to control their civilian nature.
Actually turkish-Brazilian mediation should not be sorry to Russia and China (who have never stopped trading with Iran) who see it as the last chance for a diplomatic solution to a conflict which for them is no small embarrassing and providing new penalties to Tehran, with which they make lucrative business-nuclear energy.
Lula’s visit to Iran has proved so successful and probably had been well prepared, so that last Friday the Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said: “I am counting a lot on the success of the mission of the President of Brazil. It may be the last chance to avoid sanctions under Security Council. ”
The early enthusiasm has been a bit ‘cooled by the official IRNA news agency said the same Ramin Mehman pilasters: “Iran continues to enrich uranium to 20%. Meanwhile, the Iranian radio Irib proudly announces that “the presence of the Chief of Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has officially opened the 14th summit of the G15, at presidential level, with the office of scientific research and international Iranian Foreign Ministry.
