Among the brands managed by American as we know GM’s Opel, which despite being a solid company, able to churn out cars and excellent mechanical reliability, having been under the control of American mismanagement was to several months in 2009 and even at risk of sale of discontinued operations.

It would be a terrible mistake taking into account the enormous history and tradition of the brand of Rüsselsheim. General Motors got the time and for many months after putting the ‘for sale Opel decided to keep it tight, getting rid of other brands that you do not have the same potential as for example, Hummer and Saturn.

General Motors has understood that Opel was a “bite” too delicious to miss, and to sell to rivals of other manufacturers, primarily the Fiat after the Chrysler deal was also to get their hands on the brand “lightning” and only just failed with no great regret of the Agnelli family.

Marchionne had seen it long in trying to acquire Opel, because the German brand has advanced technology and latest generation plants. Opel would encompass guaranteed by Fiat to become one of the most powerful brands in the world and have the opportunity to produce millions of cars more, which are necessary for future survival.

But seeing that GM once sold the ‘Opel has also lost the incredible wealth and technological know-how owned by the German mark, has made an immediate turn around blocking the negotiation built up with Marchionne.

In hindsight it was a winning move, because in less than two years the Opel brand has come out of the crisis in a surprising way, and especially by implementing a winning strategy. The entire range has been renewed in record time.
Many new models have “rejuvenate” the image. The mark of Rüsselsheim in a short time put on the market the new Opel Corsa that together with the Ford Fiesta is the best selling B-segment car in Europe!

Also came the new flagship of the German: Opel Insignia in two variants: sedan and wagon. The renovation continued with the new Opel Agila, but especially with the new Opel Astra, which is demolishing all sales records since its debut a few months.
Im already almost done the two variants of abstraction: the sporty GTC and station wagon in Italy in past years has made a huge success, resulting in the family with the best-selling Ford Focus.
And there’s more! Opel has put on the market including the new Meriva compact MPV that has a “greedy” news, the opening of the doors “upwind” called FlexDoors.
Within a couple of years we have already prepared the notebook in the new Opel Zafira 7 seater MPV and restayling dell’Antara, the cousin of the Chevrolet Captiva SUV.

But to emphasize the incredible effort that is implementing the brand “lightning” is the news that Opel would initiate the development of new calibration, wait until 2013 in appearance and style derived from the GTC Concept.
The coupe will have four real seats thanks to above-average roominess. Technology and electronics used will be those already introduced sull’Insignia.
As the newest cars of General Motors Calibra will also declined in different versions to the market. “We need to share costs and project risks with Buick, Chevrolet and Saab,” he confided to a GM employee approached by the magazine Car. “We will begin to generate profits only produce at least 30,000 units annually.

In short, Opel is showing all the other competitors can emerge from the crisis only through the continuous renewal of the range of their cars, updating both the mechanical and aesthetic.
Results of worldwide sales are giving the reason, not bad for a brand which was considered a bit ‘all adrift.
