Ovarian cancer: a hope from flax seeds

Posted on June 4, 2010 by ralph

In flax seed can be contained the key to fighting ovarian cancer. And ‘the hypothesis of a research university of Illinois, directed by Professor Janice Bahr and published in “Gynecologic Oncology”.
The team of Professor Bahr has worked with chickens, as these are the only animals affected by the form of cancer in question.
After five years of experimentation, scholars argue that a diet enriched with linseed reduces the severity of the tumor and increases the chances of survival. That’s because, experts say, linseed offer large doses of alpha-linolenic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid family of omega-3.
Among other things, previous research showed that breasts flax slow down (or even stop completely) the formation of tumors of the colon, breast, skin and lungs.
So, next step group of Illinois will test the effectiveness of flaxseed on human volunteers suffering from ovarian cancer.
