The food market will grow by 5% on average until 2012

The market for healthy foods  grew through 2012 annually at an average nearly 5% according to a study conducted by Xerfi Research, published this Friday, April 16. Organic products have their own deal with the annual growth rates of about 10%, while the market for functional foods, including yogurt and bifidus cereals, record an average increase of only 0.9% per year until ‘in 2010.
The outlook for 2012 will be difficult for manufacturers involved in the market for functional foods. According Xerfi, “activists involved in food supplements and food processing industries have to deal with the tightening of European regulations on nutrition and health.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has to make in the coming weeks, several opinions on the health claims for many products of the agribusiness industry. Danone has already withdrawn, Thursday, April 15, the demand for validation of Activia and Actimel from EFSA and declined to extol the benefits of both products in its advertisements.
